WindowMaster is for the first time supplying its automated window control system to schools in the Republic of Ireland.

Two installations are being used as test projects for new systems on trial for Schools for the Future in Eire.

Both Scoil Naomh Eoin in Navan and St Anne’s National School in Ardclough will feature WindowMaster’s full NV Advance automated window control system. The NV Advance system will control the heating and ventilation in 16 classrooms and the PE hall at each school.
The project is being delivered by a design team led by architects from the Department of Education and Science and M&E design engineers BDP of Dublin. The Main Contractor is Glenman Corporation, which has significant experience in delivering new schools projects across the country.

Peter Connolly, WindowMaster’s Ireland Sales Manager, said: “A natural ventilation system was selected for the schools because it is energy efficient. These two projects are significant for WindowMaster in Ireland because it means we will hopefully continue to supply the NV Advance control system to the other schools in the Schools for the Future programme as it is rolled out over the coming years.”

Energy efficiency and the ability to monitor energy usage were the key factors in selecting the natural ventilation system for the test phase of the programme. WindowMaster’s control system helped the designers to meet the requirement to control carbon emissions for these schools. In addition to the building management system it provides a method of monitoring energy usage.

Work commenced on the greenfield site in September 2010 and was completed in the summer of 2011. The school a 2 storey Generic Repeat Design (GRD) 16 classroom school, now accommodates nearly 400 students and 20 teachers.

Contracts were signed for the construction of the largest primary school building in Ireland on the 21st November 2011 at St. Colmcille’s Junior & Senior National Schools, Knocklyon, Dublin 16.

The new school, designed by Templeogue architect Louis Burke, will include 58 mainstream classrooms, 20 resource teaching rooms, 4 general prupose halls, 4 libraries, administrative blocks, school gardens, playgrounds, staff & public car parks.

The schools currently cater for 1,500 pupils and have 110 staff. The project is expected to cost €14 million and has been in planning since 2000 when it was first proposed.

Speaking at the signed ceremony the Chairperson of the schools’ Boards of Management Fr Jimmy Murray thanked the school principals Pádraig Ó Néill & John Boyle for their drive and energy in bringing the project to this stage of development. Fr Murray also singled our Francis Connolly, Deputy Principal, St. Colmcille’s SNS and the school buidling liaison officer for his work on the project.

It is expected that the building will be ready in the Autumn 2013.

The development will consist of a new 3 storey 24 classroom school building including office space, set rooms, a library & resource rooms, general purpose & multi purpose spaces and ancillary accommodation.

Site works will include provision for 43 car parking spaces with access from public road via new vehicular entrance, including drop-off and pick-up facilities with related turning circle, bicycle racks, external store, the construction of 3 ball courts, junior play space, landscaping, ESB sub-station, boundary treatment and all other associated site development works including new bus stop on Kilumney Road.

Construction of this school under the Rapid Build School Programme has commenced and will be complete in July 2012.
