Glenman Corporation just signed the contract to build the new BIA Innovator Campus in the grounds of  the Teagasc Mellows  Campus in Athenry, Co Galway. This looks set to be a very exciting project and one that will not only benefit end users of the Campus but the surrounding community and wider economy as well. The Campus will act as a centre of excellence facilitating innovation and cutting edge research in the food sector and provide a comprehensive support system for entrepreneurs seeking to develop and showcase their ideas.

Co-funded by Teagasc – the agriculture and food development authority, Enterprise Ireland and the Galway County Council, the Campus will contain 3 buildings:

• BIA Eolas / BIA Obair –  12 food grade production units/office space/culinary training centre, demo kitchen/hot desks
• High Potential Start-Up Units (HPSU) – production/food storage
• Growth Incubation Units – commercial space/business development

Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB), Athenry Community Council, SCCUL and the Western Development Commission were also involved in getting this initiative off the ground.

This is an ambitious project with immense potential to promote regional development, creating 360 new jobs across 40 companies and 2400 training places over the first three years. Welcome news for the local economy. Attending the signing of the contract this week, Chairman of BIA Innovator Campus CLG Peter Feeney stated that this project will support our farmers, producers and chefs to grow with the correct facilities, training and advice to bolster our wonderful communities in the West of Ireland.
