Following the positive response from last year’s campaign, Glenman Corporation, a Chiswick-based construction firm, are increasing their efforts by delivering food packages to 26 different food banks across London and the South East of England.

John Calvert, a Trustee and volunteer at Feltham Food Bank in Hounslow, said ‘We’re definitely seeing an increase in the need for food banks this year especially since many of the benefit schemes families were receiving have come to an end.  At Feltham Food Bank, we currently work with 37 families who have been referred to us from local services and we are grateful to companies such as Glenman who are able to support our work and provide much needed food and essential items to local families.’

Glenman launched their campaign in 2020 and encouraged their office and site staff to donate supplies, including toiletries and household products, to the local food banks in the communities where they have worked. The construction company has purchased a considerable number of food items and is carrying out deliveries to local food banks across the London boroughs and towns in the South East region.

The company’s Head of Bids and Social Value, Jillian Lilico, is delighted that we are able to continue the campaign for a second year running.

Designed by HTA Design LLP, the site has been arranged to integrate the new homes to complement the three existing towers and create urban design improvements through integrated on-street parking.

At the centre of the site is a community play and landscape space set within the existing mature trees. Existing and new homes will overlook the central space and routes to wider neighbourhood connections are being enhanced across the site.

Wensley Road is a regeneration scheme that will deliver high quality, sustainable homes and lead the way in making Reading Borough Council’s new housing stock carbon neutral.  Aligned to Passivhaus principles, the development incorporates low/zero-carbon-energy technologies, and minimises heating requirements and overheating risk through passive design.

Micheál Conneally, Contracts Director at Glenman Corporation said ‘We would like to thank Reading Borough Council for appointing us as main contractor for the Wensley Road development.  The scheme is a significant project in demonstrating our expertise in building sustainably to Passivhaus standards and providing local residents with much needed homes to live and open external spaces for them to enjoy.’

As part of Glenman’s commitment to social value, the team have already worked with a local tree surgeon to make the best use of unused wood chippings which have been donated to the local community.   The site team have also been successful in employing local people on site.

Cllr Ellie Emberson, Reading Borough Council’s Lead Member for Housing, said: “We are making a significant investment in the Wensley Road estate through the building of new homes and improvements to the high rises. There are exciting times ahead for local residents with these new housing options and better play facilities for children, whilst also helping Reading towards its net-zero carbon target”.

Our client, Barnet Open Doors Ltd, a subsidiary of Barnet Homes that was created in order to gain Registered Provider Status from the Homes and Communities Agency, had a vision to remove unused and unsightly garages and create in their place new much needed homes for their local residents.

Working in partnership with our client, to ensure the smooth delivery of the project, we held extensive consultation with neighbours and local residents to encourage two-way communication which resulted in minimal disruption during construction.

Glenman have already successfully delivered Benwell House in Sunbury-on-Thames which comprised the conversion of an existing office building into 55 new one and two bedroom apartments. The project is part of Spelthorne Borough Council’s plans to provide quality and affordable rental accommodation to local residents.
